In today's society life without a computer is unimaginable. The computer age has

added many benefits to our daily lives but there are some downfalls to the technology. Cyber crimes are an increasing factor because the internet has mushroomed to bigger and better things in the past four or five years. There are several different types of cyber crime and anyone not being sensible about computer usage can fall prey to these crimes.

A major type of crime is the theft of intellectual property. A recent example is the computer intrusion against the giant, Microsoft. The Microsoft intruder's immediate trail leads back to a server in St. Petersburg, Russia. The intruder may not be Russian some security experts from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). A server in a difficult region, such as Iraq or Russia, is very difficult to track and a very good target for a knowledgeable hacker to launch an attack from.

Another main type of cyber crime is the high profile virus attacks on worldwide


Though the task force has been successful in catching people who commit cyber crimes because of their carelessness, the problem of cyber crimes is a long way from being totally resolved. Anyone who has been a victim or even thinks they could have been a victim of "cyber crime" needs to contact their local authorities. The more people who complain, the more the task force can enforce and the more bills we could get passed to protect us as consumers.
