Participant Observation

I am in the Williowbrook Mall eating area. The store in front of me is the Great American Cookie Company, to the left of me is a baseball cap store called Lids, to my right there are chairs and tables, and behind me is a pizza place called Sbarro. There aren't really that many people here today but that is just because it is only about 11:00 am.

B. Write a short statement about what you expect to observe. I will probably observe people discussing problems they may have in their lives to friends or family members. What's going on in their lives right now, boyfriends and girlfriends, husbands and wives spending the day together in the mall.

C.Interaction. What behavior took place? Between what participants? With what frequency and intensity?

Well right now I am observing 3 gentlemen who are apparently having some kind of business meeting. Two off the men are older gentlemen approximately in there mid to late 50's. There is a younger man probably about 25 to 30 years of age. The meeting must be very important because of all the talking and interaction between them. They are con

I went to Williowbrook mall to study how human being interact in a social environment. I watched how three men acted in a meeting in the food court. I saw how two men were the "brains" of the meeting while the other man was the student of the other two men. I watched them for about an hour and learn of how these men act while they are busy doing work.

The central participants are the two older fellows. They both have gray hair and wear glasses. One of them is wearing kaki slacks and the other is wearing western style blue jeans. The one wearing the kaki slacks is wearing a blue and white pull over shirt while the other man wearing the blue jeans is wearing a gray and white striped button up the front shirt. The man wearing the blue jeans is constantly making calculations on his calculator and the man in the kaki is writing them down. I can hear them talking about feet, degrees, and other measurement. I am guessing what makes them the central figures are that they are doing all the work. They are doing most of the talking, pretty much to each other. I have been sitting here for almost an hour and the young guy hasn't really involved that much.
