McIntyre, Tom (1998). "The Traits of 'Good Teachers' As Identified By African-American and White Students With Emotional and/or Behavioral Disorders." Behavioral Disorders, 23 (2), 134-142.

Students in all levels of school have been known for years to act and perform differently in class. Many studies have been made on this subject with the help and opinions of teachers. The majority of these tests have concluded that students with emotional / behavioral disorders conduct themselves in an often times unruly or inappropriate manor that in some way detracts from the 'perfect' learning environment. For this reason, scientists and psychologists have performed a study questioning 209 students with E/BD about good and bad character traits in teachers. Up until now, no one has asked the children what they think is most helpful, but concentrated on the thoughts of the teachers. The results of this survey could begin a basis of hiring teachers to cater to youngsters

with E/BD due to specialized skills that were found exceptionally helpful to specific learning disorders.

So what should be done with E/BD children? Should we return to a racially and sexually segregated school system to try to improve proformance? Would that be best for our troubled kids? I don't think so! First off, if we did split them up, we would be depriving them of a diverse community which could, in turn, lead to misnomers, stereotypes, and possibly hate of the different groups. Children from day one must be taught that all people are created equal so that the child will not develop thoughts that one person is born better than another.

The kids where asked to rate 31 desirable teacher traits and tell whether they considered the trait to be important or not on a number scale; one being not important and five being of paramount importance. The traits were then grouped into four configurations to narrow the dependent variable down
