Cloning

Because of cultural beliefs, morals, religion, and common ethics cloning has become a major controversy all in itself. In society what some see as scientific advances, others view as governmental control and that stirs up mixed feelings about cloning.

What is cloning? Cloning is the production of one or more individual plants or animals (whole or in a part) that are genetically identical to an original plant or animal. And therapeutic cloning would involve growing replacement organs (hearts, liver, pancreas, skin, etc.) from a sample of a person's DNA. If successful, then perfectly matched, replacement organs could become freely available to sick and dying people. That would save countless numbers of lives, and increase the quality of life of countless others. Three examples might include the use of insulin-secreting cells for diabetes; nerve cells in stroke or Parkinson disease; or liver cells to repair a damage organ. There would probably also be side benefits resulting from the research. Further advances in understanding of how organs regenerate would increase the range of possible treatments that could be considered.

Though cloning can be used for a variety of reasons, it is a concern that cloning cou

ld back fire and what was thought of as scientific advances could determine the faith of mankind. Much like Adolph Hitler and his idea of the "perfect human". Few people seem to believe in the New World Order vision in which the government creates clones designed specifically for certain tasks will work successfully. Most people seem to respond to the idea of cloning at a more fundamental level. Were as most believe cloning is morally wrong and others feel that it is against the god's will. In a Time/CNN poll...suggest that Americans find the idea of human cloning deeply troubling: 3 out of 4 disapprove. A substantial 40% would put a temporary halt on all cloning research and another 46% would favor a law making it a crime clone a human being.

It is becoming more apparent to researchers exploring the new world of cloning that they have become ethicists as well as scientist. Because of fast and more modern technology, cloning tends to develop a momentum of its own. And cloning a human has become a more ethical problem circling society than the idea of cloning a plant or animal.
