How to write a paper
The Writing Process Compared to Learning to ride a BikeThe process of writing is not a unique one. Since there are several steps one must take in order to write something worthwhile, it is easy to compare the writing process to almost anything that requires steps, such as learning to ride a bike for the first time. If we think about it, it is easy to see the similarities between the two processes. The main comparison being the frustration one feels while trying to figure how these processes will work for them. Other similarities include thinking about how the process can be worked out, and then about finally figuring out how it works then making sure one can do it again. Finally, mastering the process (or at least knowing the steps, where you can repeat them). Before learning to ride a bike one has to know the components of the bike. They have to know about the pedals and what they do, about the wheels, and how the brakes work. It is just like learning about grammar before one starts to write. One has to learn about sentence structure, about punctuation and about how some words balance sentence or holds sentences together. When learning how to ride a bike is a very frustrating process to go through. Before one actually gets
They have to learn that it takes practice to do that. So they practice until they get the hang of it. In writing a paper, it is hard to come up with the first sentence. Sometimes people try to jump right into the introduction without really thinking about because they think they can do it. It is just like trying to get on a bike right after you think you know what you are doing. One is liable to make mistakes, because they haven't had enough practice (in the case of riding a bike) or they haven't had enough time to work through their problem (in the case of writing). When they finally have had enough practice, then they can actually start. When riding a bike for the first time, everyone falls for the few times. Then they figure out that it is better to go down hill in order to get balance. Then they learn to peddle while going downhill. It's just easier. When writing, one finds out that they don't know how to begin. Then they discover that they have to have an outline or a web, in order to organize their ideas. While they are trying to jot down their ideas, they find that some of their ideas don't make sense, so they have to erase and try again. Just like falling off a bike, one has to get on again to be successful. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The writing process is often a difficult process because it requires thinking. It is more of a mental process; therefore one is required to think real hard. Riding a bicycle for the first time is also a difficult process because it requires strenuous physical activity, unlike writing it is a physical process. Yet, so many similarities can be drawn from
