Jesus

More than 2000 years ago there was a man known to be the greatest leader to ever live. His name was Jesus. Even to today people follow Him because of His great teachings. His teachings were His life, His faith, and his extravagant miracles He performed. This man lived in poverty and was reared in obscurity.

The Birth of Jesus started in the days of Augustus Caesar, God sent an angel to Israel, to a virgin named Mary. The angel Gabriel tells the virgin Mary that she will have a son, Jesus, and that Jesus will be born of her and of the Holy Spirit of God. This event was foreshadowed 700 years earlier when the prophet Isaiah spoke of a virgin having a child who would be referred to as "Immanuel" which means "God with us." (Isaiah 7:14 NKJV) She was engaged to Joseph, a carpenter. The angel told Mary that by God's power, she would conceive and bear a son. When Joseph learned that she was pregnant, an angel instructed him to marry her. Joseph took her to Bethlehem to register for a census. While there, Mary gave birth to Jesus. She laid him in a manger because there was no room at the inn. Shepherds visited Jesus in Bethlehem. Later, wise men brought gifts to Jesus. They told Herod the Great, a wicked king, that Jesus wo

he Roman Empire. The Jews were ruled over by a Caesar. So, a few of the religious leaders tried to trap Jesus into saying something that would anger the Romans. They asked Jesus about the issue of Jews having to pay taxes to a Roman Caesar. But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, "You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? Show me the coin used for paying the tax." They brought him a denarius, and he asked them, "Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?" "Caesar's," they replied. Then he said to them, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's." When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away. (Matthew 22:19-22 KJV) Some of the religious leaders had gathered to test Jesus. They asked Jesus what was the greatest commandment of the Law. As explained in Matthew 22:34-40, Jesus replied: "`Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the!

second is like it: `Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." The Pharisees tried to test Jesus' knowledge of the Law, and He was able to summarize an answer into two sentences.

A few days later, Jesus traveled to the tomb of Lazarus, where Lazarus had been for four days. Jesus told Martha, Lazarus' sister, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?"

Bethlehem. Warned by an angel, Joseph took his family to Egypt. After Herod died, they returned to Israel and raised Jesus in a town called Nazareth.

s come to his home, and he said, "just say the word, and my servant will be healed." By saying that, the centurion was confessing that he had complete faith in Jesus, and that he knew that Jesus could heal his servant simply by saying words from a distance. This impressed Jesus who then turned to his followers and said of the centurion's faith: " . . .I tell you the truth, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith . . ." (Matthew 8:10 NKJV). Jesus then told the people that the servant would be healed, and the servant was healed. Later on His second year of ministry Jesus was about to enter the town gate of Nain when a group of people were carrying out a dead body. The dead person was the son of widow, who was crying. When Jesus saw her, he told the woman not to cry. As explained in Luke 7:14-16 - Then he went up and touched the coffin, and those carrying it stood still. He said, "Young man, I say to you, get up!" The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus g!

with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it. (Mark 16:19-20 NIV).

Jesus performed many more miracles the greatest one was His resurrection because of His great faith in the Lord He raised again. Since then people had worshiped Him, because of that people have been persecuted and killed for many centuries because of their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. This is why Jesus was known as the greatest leader to ever live through all time.

Of all of the miracles that Jesus had performed in healing people, turning water into wine and in feeding a multitude of people with a single basket of food, the miracle that made the disciples proclaim that Jesus was the Son of God was His miracle of walking on water. Jesus told His disciples to go out into the water in a boat while Jesus went to a private place to pray. Later, Jesus walked out to the boat and startled the disciples. They thought they were seeing a ghost walking on the water. But after they realized that it was Jesus, they worshiped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God."
