Who would have ever thought that this small town Texas girl would become one of the most well known and well rememberedwomen of the past, present and future? Amazingly, Janis Joplin became a huge success in a short period of time. She and her band, Big Brother and the Holding Company, were discovered when they performed at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967. They were discovered by Clive Davis, president of Columbia records. Soon thereafter, Janis signed with Columbia where she would remain to release all her albums. In fact, many claim that a song she recorded entitled, "Me and Bobby McGee", was her best and most highly acclaimed song. This popular song was written in 1969 by Kris Kristofferson and Fred Foster. Kris Kristofferson is given most of the credit for writing the song , but Fred Foster is also given co-credit because he proposed the title of the song.
