I was at a friend's house the other night with several friends and it was a somewhat unusual setting for me because there were a lot more girls than guys. Actually there were seven girls, I, and one other guy. Late in the night one of the girls stated that she wanted to leave to go stay the night with a guy that was a friend of everyone there. He is a good guy but she did not know if she should go since it was so late and asked for advice from her friends. All of a sudden the conversation turned from whether she should go and stay the night with him to whether she should go and have sex with him or not go at all. I had nothing to add to this discussion because I was shocked. I could not believe that these women were talking just like men. In fact, one of the girls there said, "Your thinking like a girl. Think like a man now go over there and give it to him!" Her reasoning was that it is wrong to just hook up with some random guy but if you! know the guy and he is a nice then it is all right. Brothers and sisters are also very persuasive in adolescent's sexual choices. One guy said that his brother always referred to women as whores and sluts and this is the way he perceived them. It was not until his brother met the girl that he married that this guy started thinking differently. His brother was the slut and it took a good girl to change his ways. Also seeing something bad happen to a brother or sister can affect how an adolescent makes his or her sexual choices. One girl said that her sister got pregnant and missed her chance to finish school, and although she did not stay a virgin she was very precautious when she did have sex. Having first hand experience is the best to learn from it but when it happens to a family member it is easy to understand as well. But what is the reason for first engaging in sexual intercourse for adolescents. For the most part it is curiosity, but there are underlying causes too. Each person I talked t said that they were curios about sex but they also wanted to have sex because their friends were having sex. They did not want to be the last one to have sex. One girl said that she felt left out of the group when all of her friends had already had sex and she was still a virgin. For the men it was like a race once one of their friends had sex they felt that they need to have sex to be as much a man. I remember feeling like a boy because I had not had sex yet but then when I did have sex the feeling of being a man left very shortly. I and every guy I talked to say that it was not the feeling they thought it would be. I think it was kind of a jip myself. It was a lot of talk that a lot of guys did too much talking to get. Of the guys that I talked to they all had sex with a girlfriend but they said! It is really hard for an adolescent to make sexual choices on their own. It is fact that there are other factors that play a part in making sexual choices. Not to mention the corruption bestowed by the nemesis enforcer, MTV. was long before I really understood what I was doing. The girl that waited until college to have sex said that the thought of going to hell never really crossed her mind. I do not think it is religion that makes adolescents stay virgins it is more their parents because they make them go to church, and this influences their sexual choices greatly. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I love you to a girl they liked a lot but did not really love.
