Many of us see things as they are, but do we really know what they truly are? People hide behind the truth constantly inventing a shield for themselves because they are terrified of what people might find out. Hiding the truth can be an evil act occurring until the person gives up. Shakespeare¯s play Hamlet can be illustrated as a classic tale of a childlike prince trying to expose the truth about his father¯s death. In the beginning of the play Hamlets uncle Claudius marries his mother the queen and takes the throne. Hamlet soon finds out that the new king Claudius killed his father. The theme that remains constantly in the play is appearance vs. reality. The characters appear to be true and honest but they are incriminated with wi
ckedness. Polonius is a good example of a characters that hides behind the truth, making it harder for Hamlet to reveal the truth.
The only reality is that he appears to be as sincere as a convict. °And borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry. Polonius gives his son Laertes his blessing to go away, he sends a spy to follow him and keep an eye on him. This shows his lack of trust for anyone; he gives the appearance of a confident father who trusts his son to go on his own.
