Robert F. Kennedy was almost involved in the first presidential election to have two brothers, at different period in time, elected president of the U.S. Ever since the Kennedy brothers were little their father, Joseph P. Kennedy, taught them to only concentrate on the political campaigns. The Kennedy family's only concern was politics nothing else mattered more. Robert was the next president to be elected until he was murdered in June of 1968. Robert F. Kennedy was born in the family home in Brookline, Massachusetts, on November 20, 1925 (Harrison and Terris 3). He was Rose (Fitzgerald) and Joseph P. Kennedy's seventh child; the third born after four girls. Bobby's ancestors were Irish (4). The decade was named the Roaring Twenties - a time of relative prosperity in the USA. Bobby was only a toddler in 1927 when his father escorted the family on board a private railroad car and traveled to the Riverdale section of the Bronx, New York, where he had bought a new home. He was asked to investigate trade between the United States and China, which had also recently undergone and communist revolution. In July 1953, he quit the Committee (26). Robert Kennedy Jr. was born in early 1954, shortly after his father was named chief counsel for the Subcommittee on Investigations. Before the decade was over, David, Courtney and Michael would join the family too (Whitcover 29). In January 1957, Bobby became chief counsel to the newly formed Senate Select Committee on Improper Activities in the labor or management field (31). When Bobby became attorney general he brought a spirit of vigor and informality to the Justice Department (41). Bobby, Ethel, and their children then move to Hickery Hill, the Virginia estate in 1957 (43). With Bobby Kennedy's leadership the Justice Department had gone further than ever before - not just in upholding the law,! On March 16, 1968, Bobby announced his candidacy for president of the U.S. in the Senate Caucus Room, where eight years earlier his brother had announced his bid for the presidency (96). On Monday, June 3, the final day of the campaign, Bobby's motorcade slithered through San Francisco's Chinatown. Five cracking explosions took place, and then five more, frightening people, reminding them of Dallas. Ethel crouched on the floor of the car. Bobby continued to shake hands and wave, refusing to give way to fear. It was discovered the explosion was a firecracker (102). At the Ambassador's Hotel in Los Angeles Bobby gave his victory statement for the California primary.
