I have a great fear of being violated or victimized by others. This fear is very real to me because there have been reoccurring acts of violence around me or to me. I have been battling with this fear for a long time. I am dealing with it the best ways that I can, and now I am going to use my imagination to envision a successful solution to my problem. The main cause for my fear and anxiety is the fact that I got jumped about a year ago. This was a very traumatic experience for me. I was at 7-11 and got attacked by a group of five people younger than me. I was totally helpless and got the crap beat out of me. They took my watch, my necklace, and my faith in the goodness of people. Just a short while after that occurred; my twin sister got mugged, along with my grandma. I am having a very difficult time getting over my fear of violence because of these events. I now suffer from anxiety and stress problems. I find myself getting scared at a lot of times where I know I wasn't before the incident and at times where I look back and know I should not have been. Whenever I leave school and have to walk to the parking lot alone, I feel like someone is coming up behind me to attack me. Sometimes when I am alone in a room wi
Another use of imagination to overcome my fears would be scenario writing. Keeping a journal of my feelings and actions, and also imaginative situations helps me overcome certain fears and helps me to step back and take a look at the gestalt of the problems or situations. For example, I write what the scenario is and what I think the outcome will be. I then imagine three other ways I think that the outcome could result in. I try to think of both negative and positive outcomes, as well as one perfect one, even if I have to exaggerate and I know could never happen in real life. I then look at the three and try to make an outcome that can become a reality and will work in the real situation . goal of relaxed attention. This occurs when the relative balance of relaxation and tension brought to a task is appropriate. This allows for humans to not have to push or strain when it is unnecessary . In order to overcome my fear of people and violence, the "Worry in Reverse" method may work . I am worried about going back to the 7-11 where I got jumped. I automatically see myself walking up there and being attacked. It is very hard, emotionally, to visualize that. Instead of worrying that violence will occur, I am going to direct my fantasy to the relieving feeling of accomplishment after I leave the store without being harmed. I am glad to be on my way home with the products that I came to get, and without being hurt. By ordering my fantasies to stop, I can direct my positive energy and sense of accomplishment to my real life experiences . After going through the experience that I endured and then applying these techniques, using my imagination, I do feel a little better about my "block" or phobia. I am now able to envision some successful solutions to my problems. Now, I just need to apply these techniques to the situations that bring me anxiety. There are a number of fluent ideations, or number of solutions that can be used to try to conquer my fears. The first, I have found, is to re
