Are you Censored
Are you censored? Well, if you answered no, you might want to ask yourself again. As a citizen in the United Sates of America, censorship is everywhere and is only getting worse. From books to movies, the censors have taken control of what the public can and cannot view. The censors in America are out of control and need to be stopped. As a citizen in this great country, you are granted the First Amendment right to freedom of religion and freedom of expression. As a right in this country, a person is allowed to publish or produce any material he or she wants to produce. People, no matter what title they hold, should not have the right to burn books or censor other citizens from viewing this material. When a person is young, he or she is taught to use his or her imagination. A child is read stories of a talking cat, or a silly old bear, to encourage use of his or her creativity. The ideas of such characters are for pure amusement, and are obviously fictional. Unfortunately today, there are issues of censorship that stifle a person’s creativity. In “Crazies at The Gate,” by Michael Scott Cain, the author explains the radical movement of book burning and book banning. To think that children will be deni
adored by all. Books are meant to encourage children to learn and think for themselves, not to encourage violence and protest. ed the right to read these stories greatly upsets me. To restrict a child’s imagination is like restricting a child’s breathing. Each child should be allowed to let his or her creativity flourish, growing into a resourceful and innovative adult. have low self-esteem and are very disagreeable. Although censors believe that they are going against a subject for a good reason, many times, these censors get out of hand. For example, book burnings and protests all have negative effects on the cause. From book burning, violence and protests are encouraged. This violence often leads to more serious violent behavior and can even lead to death. This definitely has a negative effect on children and how they view censorship. Often after a riot over censorship, the purpose of the protest is lost, solving nothing, and leaving many people hurt. The responsible and educated person who disagrees with a certain topic would simply walk away and not pick up the book or listen to the music. He or she would not be the cause of a riot and potentially hurt other people. Oddly enough, the people who start these book burnings and protests often have no control in their own family, so
