A Modern Day Environment and How it Effects Teenagers
There little Joey lying on his bed in a puddle of tears with his pillow drawn tightly around his ears, so he wouldn't hear his parents yelling and screaming in the next room. Finally the yelling stopped. He went to see what had happened, and that's when he found out that his mother left and wouldn't be returning. Now let me ask you, Joey went through this all his life do you think he will turn into a responsible citizen. Even though it's not impossible, he doesn't have a very good chance. Why you ask? Because home and social environment can severely influence the way a child acts as well as how they grow up. A modern day environment affects the choices teens make and the positive and negative actions they take; however they need to realize that they are in control of their life. The conflicts teens are exposed to in their environment can be damaging. Divorce has become all to common in our society. Fifty percent (50%) of all marriages will end in a divorce. During this time children are involved in a confusing emotional situation. The child must attempt to understand a series of events, and actually restructure assumptions, dreams, goals, and expectations about them selves and their environment. These teenagers are sometimes u
Gore in television also takes a big part in influencing young minds. Children see gory scenes and are fascinated by these things that they have not seen before. Older viewers see gore and are not concerned with the blood but rather with the pain the victim must feel. A younger mind doesn't make this connection. Once the mentality is installed into teenagers they become increasingly prone to being easily pushed into a gang situation by any problem at home or elsewhere. For instance, in poor families with many children or upper class families where parents are always working the children will often feel deprived of love. Parents can often feel that putting food on the table is enough love. Children of these families may often go to the gang firstly out of boredom and to belong somewhere. As time goes on, a form could definitely be sub divided within itself. This particular category of teenagers are slightly vague as it can range from jocks, to brains. The last of the categories is the conservative teenager. The category describes the class of teenagers who follow the rules and teaching of the adult world with out complaint or rejection. The new anti social structure of cities also effects the ease in which a boy or a girl for that matter into days society can join a gang. The formation of gangs in cities and most recently in suburbs is facilitated by the same lack of community among parents. The parents do not know what their children are doing for two reasons. First much of the parents lives is outside the local community while the children's lives are lived almost totally within it. Second, parents in a fully developed community, the network of relations gives every parent in a s sense a community of people who can keep him informed of his child's activities. In a modern living place these networks no longer are there. One of the main problems of sibling rivalry is jealousy. Another is fear. When the rivalry is between a baby and a toddler it may be because the toddler is jealous about the attention his brother is receiving or out of fear that he wall receive less attention now that his mother is caring for his brother. Gangs bring the delinquent norms of society into intimate contact with the individual. So as you can see if TV leads a child to believe that violence is a norm this will manifest itself in the actions of the child quite often in a gang situation. This is especially the case when parents don't spend a lot of time with their kids at the TV explaining what is right and what is wrong. Quite often newer books and some types of music will enforce this type of thought idea also. 2. Kaslow, Florence and Schwartz, Lisa (1987) "The Dynamics of Divorce" In male gangs problems occur as each of the members try to be the most manly. This often leads to all members participating in one trying to out do the other. This often leads to one member trying to commit a bigger or more violent crime. it as a personal rejection. This can affect a child's eating sleeping, play, and toileting. School age children suffer from loyalty conflicts and fantasize about their parents getting back together. This is associated with the decline in academic pe
