should Gay marriage be legalized

"GAY MARRIAGE!!!!!" these words have been heard over and over in

regards to legalizing them all over the world. As our society tries to grapple with

the idea of two men or two women wedding we will see more and more conflict

between the far "left" and the far "right." As Gay marriages are legalized around the

world, many Gays and Gay advocates are scrambling to jump on the legalization

wave. So many people are for the legalization of Gay marriage, but then too the

opponents may never die. Seemingly the Religious section of our society is and still

remains Gay marriages greatest opposition. How much power does our court system

have to keep this oppression going? Should the general public have a say in the

final outcome? Currently to this day the law clearly states that what the legal

definition of marriage is, and it does not include same sex marriages. In the

for wording text you will learn why Gay marriages should not be legalized in

The strongest arguments come from I believe the Bible. Even in the First Testament it was stated that "Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind; it is an abomination" (Lev.18:22). If you read this word for word it basically states that no man shall sleep with

On a great note in the Netherlands Gay marriages were officially legalized. It is the first country in the world to do this. ("Dutch Gays win",2000) These rights, which also included adoption and divorce, will hopefully pave the way to legalizing marriages in other countries namely Canada. With marriage already legal just across the ocean hopefully it will most likely further proponents of legalizing it here to continue their fight. It will also help Gays by showing that the Netherlands is an example of progression in this day and age, we must keep advocating!

iamentary debate, that opponents of Gay marriages are sexually insecure. After that was said NDP MP John Solomon said his Roman Catholic religious views do not allow him to support a bill to the Gay marriages legalized. (Robinson reopens issue,2000) These are the kind of views that Gays have to unfairly deal with, people with their old fashioned views of what constitutes a marriage. These are the type of people who are making life altering choices for people who they will most likely never even meet, is this fair?

Is he saying that Gays don't belong in an institution that was designed for a man and a woman? Is he saying he does not need an institution which was designed to help foster a couple which would be procreating children. This is saying exactly what he is saying. Why have the general population forced into social tolerance towards Gays, and not really accept them? As Eric has stated why have tolerance when you can have acceptance? He feels Gays should worry more about the social issues that they should be fighting for, rather then the legalization of an already grossly inadequate straight-marriage institution.

a man as he does with a women. It also goes on to state that marriage is a holy union between a man and a woman .....not a man and a man! Although this is a very literal way to approach the Bible, it was the way it was written and what our society is based on as a religious christen component to the world. This lends to the fact that not only does the Bible say no to Gay marriages, but it also says no to Gay relationships.

Once again I must site the Charter of Rights and Freedoms which clearly states "that a person cannot be discriminated against because of their gender. In addition to this the Supreme Court of Canada has repeatedly ruled that individuals in Canada cannot be discriminated against because of their sexual orientation,"(Religious tolerance, 2000) This is a clear contradiction, societies have long recognized that allowing civil rights to certain groups may offend some, and at times, even the majority. But that is why constitutional government was established. This is in place to ensure that powerless, unpopular minorities are still protected from the discrimination of the majority. If we are not allowed to be discriminated against based on our sexual orientation, why are Gay marriages illegal? It would almost seem that the government will protect us against
