an old habit

A detailed Summary of an old habit

Pablo arrived at the church alone. It was Saturday, and Pablo's best friend, Miguel was getting married to Lupe. Miguel had just turned thirty six and was in love. She was only eighteen, very attractive, and somewhat flirty but Pablo was not sure that she truly loved Miguel. With a nineteen year difference, Pablo could not help but doubt their "love." Yet he knew that if it were he in Miguel's place he would be getting married too.

The ceremony lasted forty-five minutes and then the rice, the pictures, and the congratulations. As usual, many of the families invited did not have transportation so Pablo, being the gentleman he was, volunteered his car. He ended up taking one of the families that had been invited, which consisted of the grandfather, grandmother, two young girls, the husband and wife. The husband, Luis was about Pablo's age. During the ride over they talked. Talking, Pablo found out a lot about Luis's family. He found out that the grandparents had been married for 50 years, his wife was was a teacher and was the bride's friend, and that his two young daughters were in high school, Adriana, the youngest in 9th grade and Liliana

"If you want to dance and you don't mind, I'll dance with you." After taking her in his arms he thought to himself, "What am I doing? What am I thinking? She is just a child. And I, I am an old man." Nervous, with his guilty conscience, blanked out a bit while she talked to him. She told him of her father's job and how she got along with her mother and sister Adriana. What school she went to and where she live. He told her about his job and that his favorite soccer team were the Pumas and that he liked to read novels.

"They must be around here somewhere having fun, I suppose."

He didn't know if she was joking with him or not but it was set. They were alone for about another half hour of so when her sister Adriana came looking for her because the bride was about the throw the bouquet. "Could this probably be the effect of all the alcohol?", he thought to himself. Liliana could be his daughter. That was a painful truth for him. Minutes later, after taking another drink he left the wedding without saying goodbye to anybody.

He made some comments about the novel and about other authors and awards their books had received. This all impressed her. He promised to let her borrow his book. "But how and when?," he asked her.

"I really like the music group Mana and to read too," she said.

Liliana's eyes. Her eyes bedazzled him with their charm.

"Next Thursday at two o'clock in the afternoon. I get out of school at that hour."
