The Death Penalty: Right for Safety or Wrong For Morality

The death penalty is a very common controversial social issue across our nation. Every time a death penalty case arises, and the time comes for the convict, thousands of people across the nation support the punishment as well as protest the punishment. This issue does not have any proponents of a particular group. People are very split on this subject, regardless of race, background, age, gender, and other variables that distinguish individuals.

Throughout the extent of time, feelings have changed from one spectrum to the other. In our recent past, people were executed for just stealing a horse. Today on the other hand, it is a totally different story. In recent times, people can commit severe crimes, and can get away with their life and occasionally their freedom. I personally am a proponent of the death penalty. Although I am a non-violent person, I do believe in the "eye for an eye" theory when it comes to murder. There are many people who agree with me, but there are a vast number of people whom don't.

I, as well as many others, have total confidence in the death penalty. It is a very beneficial component of our justice system. The death penalty saves lives. It saves lives because it stops those who murder from ever

The people who oppose the death penalty may never exactly understand why people like me support it morally, but hopefully they understand that it does deter violent crimes. Understandably though, opponents of the death penalty want to make sure they have the right person, or the guilty party. They will give emotional speeches about the one innocent man or woman who might accidentally get an execution sentence. However, all of these people are forgetting one crucial element. They are forgetting the thousands of victims who die every year by the hands of heartless murderers. There are more murderers out there than people who are wrongly convicted, and that is what we must remember.

The opponents of the death penalty all mainly agree that killing a human being shouldn't be put in the hands of other human beings. But one major point with their argument is the fact that the murderers had live(s) in their own hands. They chose to commit the crime. This can get very opinionated when it comes to the issue of putting a human being to death. There is no correct answer to this situation. It basically just comes down to what you believe in, or what your feelings are about the concept for "an eye for an eye."
