Macedonia, the small precious piece of land located just north of Greece, troubled by the constant worry of one of four nations eyeing the country. Bulgaria, Greece, Albania, and Serbia all want a piece of this land to call their own. With all of the other fighting in the Balkans Macedonia was the only country to succeed from Yugoslavia without violence.Alexander the great on ruled the key land of Macedonia in 338 B.C. was when Alexander the greats father fought and won Macedon from Greece. Later this land fell into roman control at 146 B.C. After Rome's fall in 395 A.D. the Byzantine Empire then took over Macedonia and all of Eastern Europe. Slavs moved into the country around the 6th century. From the 9th century on the debate of whose land it really was. This debate lasted until the 14th century when the Ottoman Empire took over the land. In 1912 the Balkan wars took place, which set very rough boundaries for the country. In the city there is a large amount, 500,000, ethnic Albanians, which have recently, cause quite a stir. The country also has lake Ohrid with beautiful cliffs and one of the oldest monasteries in the world. To the east is Albania, the north is Serbia, the south Greece, and to the west is Bulgaria. All of which think that Macedonia is theirs. Serbia during the second Balkan war took one of the largest pieces of land. As with each country having its main purpose to expand, Serbia feels that Macedonia should stay a part of new Yugoslavia (Serbia and Montenegro). They also claim that since they spent so much money on helping the country, that they should do it as an act of kindness, although all of the ethnic Albanians in Kosovo were sent to Macedonia from Serbia for relief.
