Although many readers don't realize the connection between real people and fictional characters, often writers use these real people as the epitome of their characters. For example, F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote, The Great Gatsby with a character based on Arnold Rothstein. Rothstien became known as one of the most notorious gangsters of his time.
