For my I-search research paper I have chosen: What is diabetic retinopathy? How is it developed and how can it be treated?

I am interested in this topic because recently I found out that my father has diabetes and one of the things he reported was that his vision was affected. My grandmother also recently began reporting problems with her vision and she has been a borderline diabetic for many years. This is important to me because of the hereditary nature of diabetes, I am at a high risk of developing it myself one day. I wanted to know as much about it as possible since knowledge and awareness will decrease the risk to me significantly. I am also very concerned about my father and grandmother's health and wanted to know as much about the condition as possible. Perhaps with the information I have gained through this I will be able to better understand what they are going through and what may be in store for my future.

I did not know very much about my topic when I started. I had heard of diabetes before but never really knew what it was, particularly the affect on the eyes. I wanted to know what causes the disease diabetes and how it can be prevented and treated. I also wanted

My major weakness is time management and the fear of not being able to do the report. Once I convinced myself to start writing I realized that it is not as scary or difficult as I had expected. I also discovered that I am good at gathering information and completing the smaller aspects of the paper such as interview questions.
