Environmental Protection

It has been noticed in recent years the escalating changes in many environment related systems. These changes endanger our life and other creatures on the planet. The effect of the changes will become even worse if mankind does not take the proper steps to prevent the increasing threat. Humans have been responsible for releasing a large portion of what is called green house gasses which have heat-trapping property. These gases include carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and others. Since the beginning of the industrial revolution, atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide have increased about 30 %, methane concentration have more than doubled and nitrous oxide concentration have risen about 15% according to United States Environment Protection Agency (EPA).

Analyzing this information and results from researches on environmental changes enables us to explain the stream of alternating weather patterns. Weather is the main player in the environmental frame and it is able to influence our life and other creatures to a great extent. Health is one major aspect where the impact of the global warming can be seen clearly. Higher air temperature raises the concentration of ozone at the ground level dama

ging lung tissue especially people with asthma and other lung diseases. Death rate has been found to be proportional to temperature rising. In July 1995, a heat wave killed more than 700 people in the Chicago area alone. Statistics show that deaths due to heat are more than deaths due to cold. Heat waves is just one of the unexpected weather patterns produced by the global warming. Scientists expect that average global surface temperature could climb 1 to 4.5 F0 in the next fifty years.

It is easy to recognize the changes in other environment elements. Water is a perfect example. Climate changes due to the increasing temperature shift both evaporation and precipitation patterns causing unbalanced conditions. Increasing evaporation leads to dryer soil which affects the trees growth and wildlife. Limiting the growth of the trees decreases substantially the carbon dioxide consumption. As a result, the carbon dioxide concentration increases without compensation and the cycle of deforestation is accelerated. On the other hand, worldwide precipitation has increased by one percent since the past century. Northern United States and south Canada are such places where it is more likely to see heavy rainfall that did not e
