A detailed Summary of squanto
Arriving in the New World in the year of 1620 were the Pilgrims. Led by William Bradford, John Carver, and Miles Standish, the Pilgrims found survival to be very difficult. During their first winter in this new place nearly half of them died. The production of food, shelter, and clothing were the main difficulties that these people
faced. On March 16, 1621 an Indian named Squanto entered the Pilgrim village. With the help of Squanto the Pilgrims were able to survive and succeed in their colonization efforts.
Squanto was born into the Patuxet Indian tribe in the area of what would later become known of as Plymoth. Unfortunately, his date of birth is unknown. He also taught them that the remains of a fish work excellent as a fertilizer. Without his help the Pilgrims would not have planted the twenty acres of corn that helped them survive that year.
In 1622 Squanto died of a fever. He is still remembered and honored nearly 400 years later. Without Squanto's help perhaps none of the Pilgrims would have survived and their story may have ended in a different way.
