Nigeria

In Nigeria, a country full of corruption until the mid nineties. Nigerians human rights were being violated and still are till this day. The media was finally writing about the violations of human rights and the corruption of the Nigerian govt. If the officials had led the country in a non-corrupt manner there may not have been so many violation of human rights brought forth. People that try to take a stand in what they believe in are shot and jailed. A country that is full of riches the people live in poverty and inhuman conditions. The media outside of Nigeria makes one think that the people with the money are the ones who hold the power, and in Nigeria this is exactly how things are.

Through many of the articles that were read there was a message that was conveyed to me. The message was that the big Oil Corporation present in Nigeria has been one of the main causes in the human rights violations throughout the countryside. On a website called Corporate Watch there was an article by Tony McAuley that spoke of the corruption with the Nigerian govt. and how the wealthy corporation will pay the officials to take care of problems.
