american slavery reparations
A detailed Summary of american slavery reparations
American citizens, I stand before you having been ashamed at the fact we believe money from the U.S. government can be the remedy of the injustices and evils of American slavery. When it was brought to my attention that a new "dream team" of lawyers led by Professor Charles Ogletree of Harvard Law School, Johnnie Cochran, and some of the nation's most respected and feared class action attorneys were preparing to sue the U.S. Government and surviving business that profited from slavery I could do nothing other than sigh and shake my head. This would be saying it is OK if the kidnapped, beaten, raped, and abused slaves had simply been paid a decent salary. Even so, this salary would be given so many generations later meaning there is no definite receiver. Such a claim is for return of property wrongly gained rather than compensating a wrongful act done.
The Confederacy may have seen slavery as part of its public character, but underneath all the talk, a lot of private individuals as well as local governments were committing millions of crimes: batteries, false imprisonment, unlawful misuse or stealing of slaves, rape cases, and even murders. If we see making descendants of white people or the government pay African-American citiz

I do not believe it is anything wrong with trying to pay back for the wrongs of slavery but it is simply too long ago for us to do that in the way planned. The only way to pay back for the wrongs of slavery now in the year 2001 and beyond is to NOT LET HISTORY REPEAT ITSELF. We can do that by living the great dream, Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream, that is deeply rooted in the American dream. We can do that by coming together as a nation as one and fighting the insects that wriggle their way in trying to break our foundation as a nation.
Webster defines a descendant a person descended from another or others or an immediate or remote offspring. It is evident African-Americans are not immediate offspring of slaves and it is not guaranteed that all people who are called black have descended from slaves.
I believe my friends, that if we can benefit from what our ancestors did then we can pay for what they did but only in a business versus slavery economics battle. Morally, you should not be punished for what someone else did. But when you apply this to business, things turn a different way. If a business that has been open for 250 years and has definitely used slavery economics can benefit from the history, is it wrong for them to pay for the history?
>From reports it was said that $7,000 was the appropriate amount owed
