How to Successfully Study for a Test

Successful college students make sure they have adequate time to study. To be successful in college a student must have good time management. It is best to pick a time to study when the student has no distractions or prior engagements. Distractions will make a college student's mind wander and lose focus on the task at hand. It is important the student does not have a study session when he will be at a study disadvantage. For example, it is not a good idea for the college student to have a study session at a time he is always tired. The student needs to leave adequate time before and after the study session to ensure there are no distractions. Study time contributes to the extremely important process of completing a college course.

To have a successful study period the student starts off by getting mentally ready to study. Having a designated study area is extremely helpful. Pick a study area that will have no distractions. For example the student will want to pick a room with no telephone or a television. Now that the area is chosen the student needs to organize the necessary materials in front of him. The textbook is the first item that will be needed. A student must read the designated


materials to be successful in studying. The next

chapter is. Now the student will need to grab the highlighter and go back through the chapter highlighting the key information. When looking for the information to highlight the student should be trying to recall what he read that was important. The student needs to highlight all information that he thinks is important enough to be on the test. Highlighting is important because it is the last step before you set the book aside and concentrate on the notes. So the student should be thorough when highlighting. After highlighting all the important information the student will proceed by transferring the highlighted material to a notebook. When the student transfers the information to the notebook he needs to break out the information that will be on the test.
