The Makah, an Indian tribe living on the northwest coast of the United States in Washington, plan on exercising there right under aboriginal hunting to hunt a Grey whale off the coast during mating migration to the north. But they will not be meet without some resistance. not only will there be local protest but international organizations will be there to do what the can to help out there underwater friends. In the 1920's the tribe stopped hunting whales because of the massive shortage due to commercial whaling. Now at the turn of the century the tribe is ready to continue its past tradition. But by 1946 it was apparent that this situation could not continue so an international convention held in Washington, D.C., resulted in the formation of the international whaling commission, (IWC). Norway is not alone in its efforts to keep commercial whaling. basically since the ban went into effect Japan, who has always considered whale a delicacy, has tried at every effort to undermine the IWC efforts to protect whales from commercial whaling. They support any group for commercial whaling buy providing them with money and speak on there behalf at meetings to try and show a growing support for whaling. (Begley 2)

This topic is one of much controversy. It has been going on for over 60 years and has involved almost every nation it the world. One side trying to uphold there cultural and economical necessities and the other asking for compassion and understanding. If this topic is ever to be resolved people must get educated on what is what. To many people say that they disagree with what is happening to our worlds whales but dont do anything to stop it. It is time to think not what others can do to help the cause but what you can do.
