A detailed Summary of Childhood's End


"I'm sorry if this disappoints you, but at least the political problems of the near future won't be your responsibility. Perhaps you still think that our fears are unfounded-but believe me we've had convincing proofs of the danger of any other course...your world isn't the only planet we've supervised" (Clark 55). Childhood's End portrays the human race as ignorant, and curious individuals who cannot build a society filled of happiness, peace and hope. It portrays a humanity who does not need gods because their faith was only useful to help them live their lives on Earth, but not because their gods would save them of the calamities the Earth would face in a specified time. The Overlords, who are super intelligent and seemingly all-powerful aliens, who have been supervising the Earth for more than fifty years, were in charge of upholding the Earth's future.

Karellen is the supervisor the Overlords have chosen to represent themselves to the humans. Karellen talks to the humans through the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Stormgren. Stormgren learns from Karellen a proposal of the Overlord's "World Federation". This World Federation is supposed to save humanity for the upcoming crisis it will face du


Chidhood's End depicts a new world; a world of prosperity and happiness. Was the book written to awaken humans to the hard times the Earth is going to go through if we don't change? This book presents future in a positive way, but our future will be better than the one described according to what good changes we make today.

The world is going to change 100 years from now depending on what we do now, and what we do to preserve those things we want later. One harvest what he seeds, and whatever we sow today, that's what we are going to harvest in the future. I can see negative changes in the future because what we are living now is racial discrimination, hate, and misery in our hearts.
