grapes of wrath

The movie, The Grapes of Wrath, was based on a book written by John Steinbeck. This movie was based on a true story, and took place in the 1930's. The story had to deal with a family's troubles as they were kicked off their land in Oklahoma, and driven to California in search of work and settlement. It shows the challenges of survival during the great depression in the 1930's. The three main points that will be discussed in this paper are the setting, plot, and characters.

The setting of this movie was back in the 1930's, a time of depression. In this time there were people called the "Okies." These people were labeled as the true backbone of American society. If I were to live in these types of conditions with my family I don't think I could have survived.

s in California. The Joad family packed up the truck and started a road trip to California. As they begin everything is fine. When they stop for the first night, Grandpa has a stroke and dies. During the night, they meet the Wilson's. When they arrived to California, Mrs.Wilson gets sick and can't continue so the Joads travel on without them. In California, they went to a camp where they were given a house and a job. The men went out into the fields and worked for one dollar a day which wasn't that good at the time. The men were trying to go on strike but the "Okies" that were coming to California were accepting the low wages. They said it was better than nothing and wouldn't go on strike. The strike was lead by Jim Casy, so men track him down and kill him. The Joads were forced to leave the camp when Tom killed a poli
