Criminology and Pop Culture

These three articles were all about the relation of criminology to popular culture. I believe that a lot of the scenarios and perceptions towards certain violent movies are true. By using certain characters (heroic father or hard bodies) they can allow the viewer to perceive that character as part of their reality.

I personally didn't like the findacticles.com article. I found it to be long and strung out. Some of it also I couldn't really follow "these narratives violently enact the centrality of the family, tortured and triumphant". This was in context of talking about the action thriller genre and how it was centered on families. I felt that the author tried a little to hard when trying to write this article rather than just get the main points of each genre across. I did like however in some aspects of the article and how the really opened my eyes to different genres that I didn't realize existed. When talking about "Lost World", the author talked about how they manage to "avoid the inevitable conflict between men's devotion to their children and to their jobs". This made me think of such movies as Lethal Weapons where the main c

The second article "Popular Culture and Violence", was a lot more enjoyable to read and I found it to be a lot more interesting how it tied in criminology to popular culture rather than just talking about the different types of criminal types in movies. It was a lot clearer when describing the different types of movie acts (e.g. vengeance, rebellion, and problem solving). This also helped me think of other examples of movies I had seen that were related to the different fields described.

One of the most interesting movie types that I found in all of the articles was about mysticism. I was very intrigued into how people really do use inner fears and inhuman beasts as violence.
