Hello Board of Religious authorities. I am Sojourner Truth. I am a runaway slave, a mother who saw two of her four surviving children, sold into slavery and an evangelical preacher and mystic. I have been summoned before you because you consider my writings to be heretical. I am here to dispel these thoughts and prove to the board that I am not heretical. I will try to answer any questions that the board may have so that I can justify my understanding of the divine.

Thank you for coming Sojourner Truth. We appreciate your honesty and your willingness to prove to us that understand the willingness of the divine. We have many questions for you to answer. Answering them as best as possible will only help us know if you are heretical or not. Many people view God in different kinds of ways. How do you view God?

I view God as a friend. I can speak to him on a total one-on-one basis. I feel I have a special relationship with God where I can communicate with him at all times unlike other people. One time God revealed himself to me, with all the suddenness of a flash of lightning, showing me, in the twinkling of an eye, that there was no place where God was n


You see religion was not really a major part of my life growing up in slavery. Spirituality was a major part of my life. Even though I am a preacher now, I speak for God through my spiritual meetings with him. I am sorry but religious authority is not something I have voiced about in the past.
