the truth about women sports
Any girl's team in America knows what it's like to be overlooked in the sports world. Our volleyball team, unlike almost any boy's team in my school, was one of the final four in the state this year. Even though our team went that far, and another volleyball team in my county got to the playoffs, the football teams only won one game, yet they still got just as much publicity as us. The sports world definitely overlooks women's sports. Even though women's sports have just begun to be televised, there still isn't much of it on TV. There are channels devoted solely to sports on which you might find two women's sports a day. I looked through the sports channel listings in my Primestar program guide and there was one woman's sports program listed between seven channels for one whole day. The only way in which women's sports are not overlooked is through negativity. Men can scratch themsel
The only way to solve the problem of women's sports being overlooked is just to be more supportive. Men support men's sports very well, that is how they gross millions of dollars every year. Women need to start supporting women's sports better. Kate Rounds wrote in her article, "Why Men Fear Women's Teams," that "Bruce Levy claims that U.S. businesswomen aren't supporting team sports" and "if they stuck their neck out once in a while it might make a difference" (CC, 432). One reason women's sports have progressed this far is sex appeal. "Players of the World Soccer team posed nude, or in swimsuits for magazines, while Anna Kournikova, a tennis player, is a poster girl for jockette sex. Kournikova is rich and famous because she is a babe. The soccer team is a group of successful women going an extra step and having some fun with America's sexual obsession" (Sullivan, 62). Although this sexual obsession isn't good,
