Reading
Reading is explained as the primary process of theassociative learning by Anderson and Dearborn. “Reading, as a physiological process, primarily involves visual perception, but associative learning must occur if reading is to be more than mere word-calling” as stated by Barbe.(1965) Reading comprehension is a complex intellectual process involving a number of abilities. The two major abilities involve word meaning and verbal reasoning. Without these there would be no reading comprehension; without reading comprehension, there would be no reading as stated There are many different views of reading. According to Herber (1970) reading is defined as a thinking process which includes decoding of symbols, interpreting the meaning of symbols, and applying the ideas derived from the symbols. Some restrict reading to only the decoding process. From this point of view, reading is simply a matter of associating symbols with sounds. The second aspect of reading is interpreting the meaning of symbols. The reader should not only associate sound with symbol, but also meaning with the symbol, drawing on ideas he has developed in relationship to the symbol.
