A detailed Summary of Sister Wendy
The first time I saw Sister Wendy on PBS, I was shocked to see a nun talking about sex in art. I don¯t remember the name of the painting that she was discussing, but I do remember the passionate manner in which she described the explicit scene. Her teeth and style of talking caused me to laugh for a few minutes. When I finally stopped laughing, I started listening to what she had to say, and I was impressed. She had a deep knowledge of the painting and the artist that painted it. The next time I saw Sister Wendy was in SNL. Actually, it wasn¯t Sister Wendy; it was a man in a habit trying to impersonate her. Again, I laughed at the humorous but partially accurate portrayal of that sweet, old woman.

I think it¯s great that she can put her knowledge to use by enlightening the people watching her shows and videos. The fact that she is a nun makes the tapes more interesting. She surprises me every time I watch her because I would have thought a nun¯s perspective on art would be somewhat limited to religious subject matters. Her descriptions and interpretations of pictures containing explicit scenes shock me every time even though I have seen her numerous times now. Especially when she says things like "lovely, fluffy, pubic hair." I also like the fact that she is willing to talk about a subject that nearly killed her. Her expansive knowledge of art derives from books which is uncommon. Her criticisms about art are genuine and passionate. It made me smile to hear her dismissing paintings left and
