Capital punishment

Murders occur in almost every society around the world. Criminals convicted of these murders are dealt with in different ways, some of which are sentenced to death. Capital punishment is the most severe form of corporal punishment as it is requires law enforcement officers to kill the offender. It has been banned in many countries, in the United States, for example, an earlier move to eliminate capital punishment has now been reversed and more and more states are resorting to capital punishment for serious offenses such as murder. The average murder rate per 100,000 population in 1996 among death penalty states was 7.1, the average murder rate among non-death penalty states was only 3.6. (Death Penalty Information Center). As can be seen there is no clear evidence that capital punishment acts as a deterrent for crime.

In conclusion, the moral dilemma that capital punishment installs provides another obstacle to an already morally challenged society. It can be argued economically, ethically, or on a factional basis, capital punishment needs to be left in the history boo
