Family Structure
A detailed Summary of Family Structure
There are many views in which society sees the family unit. In recent years the rate of divorce has sky rocketed. Does this mean that we are becoming a dysfunctional society, becoming more accustomed and willing to accept the role of a single parent, or are we just creating disoriented children? In this paper, I will compare and contrast two family structures. One which is composed of a single parent and the other with the typical two parent house hold. Sandra grew up without the presence of a father figure in her life while Myriam was raised by both parents.
Sandra's life is very different from Myriam's in many ways; for example, Myriam had a mother and a father in her house hold, while Sandra only lived with her mother. At the young age of two, Sandra's mother, Marcie, separated from her husband Samuel and took her two children away from him. As a single parent, Marcie had to work long hours leaving her children at home with no one to look over them. Sandra, aware of this, went out all of the time and just made sure to be at home by the time her mother got of

Myriam's relationship with both parents is good. She feels very appreciated and thankful she has had parents to rely on. She hopes to one day be married as long as her parents have and raise her children with the same principles and ideas that she had. Sandra is also thankful and appreciated for her hard working mother. She loves her father, but cannot be as thankful towards him since he did not play a role in her life.
After analyzing the different lives of these two friends, I have found numerous differences between them. Not only were they raised very differently, but they have grown to make distinct choices throughout their lives. Sandra married at a young age and has experienced the difficulties involved in a divorce. Still yet, they both strive to have a close and united family one day; Myriam, like the family in which she grew, and Sandra, like the one she never had. They both agree that a family would be more stable and united if the two parents were present.
