Pro Football
Professional Football is the great game that changed America. This game is the game that the Americans started and other continents followed. This sport has one league, which is known as the NFL (National Football League). The NFL has to conferences one is The NFC (National Football Conference), and The AFC (American Football Conference). Then these conferences are made into divisions, which consist of the NFC East, Central, and West. In the AFC it is also the East, Central, and West. The NFL has an offense, defense and special teams. The NFL in the 1970's consisted of a lot of great players, and one of them was Joe Nameth. Joe Nameth was a Quarter Back for the New York Jets (Thorn120). This young Quarter Back quickly picked up a nickname, which was "Broadway Joe" (Thorn122). In 1967 Joe Nameth threw for a record of passing yards, which was 4,007 yards (Thorn122). Joe Nameth played for the AFL (American Football League), which was before an American and National conference, there were two leagues and at the end of one complete year the champions from these teams would play in a game which was called Super Sunday (Thorn120). Joe Nameth threw for 206 yards in his first Super Sunday and led the Jets to a 16 to 7 victor
The Oakland Raiders, which are an AFC team, really dominated the 70's as far as wins and Super Bowl (Fleischer121). The Raiders never lost more than 4 games in a season in a stretch in the 70's (Fleischer121). Many give this honor to their head coach John Madden in his first year he took the Raiders to a 12-1-1 record, which is 12 wins 1 loss and 1 tie (Fleischer121). John Madden had 8 years of coaching with the Raiders in those seasons he won 83 regular season games (Fleischer121). Another thing that maid John Madden so great was that when he became the head coach of the Raiders he was only at the age of 32 (Fleischer121). The Raiders earned 2 Super Bowl victories in those 8 years with coach John Madden (Fleischer121). This is why The Oakland Raiders are the team that could of dominated the 70's. In the 1994 season a different team that was familiar with the Super Bowl wanted to show that even though they lost their great Quarter Back Joe Montana and probably Jack Fleischer, Pro Football at its Best (Washington D.C.: Colortone Press, 1977) a league best 17 sacks. The Rams were expected to go all the way to the Super Bowl simply because they were the best team in the NFC and they had a record to prove it. The Titans went into the playoffs as a wildcard and almost lost their first game, but because of an awesomely designed kickoff return, which was ran by Kevin Dyson with a lateral pass from Frank Wycheck went all the way for the winning touchdown score. The miracle that saved the Titans season also sent them into the Super Bowl to face the St. Louis Rams. The Rams number one offense was up against the Titans number one defense. The game was one of the best Super Bowls ever seen and the Rams leading the way most of the game had the Titans triumph back and look for perhaps another miracle victory this one would of course be their biggest, but that wasn't the case as the Rams defense make the stop on the Titans and walk out with a 23-16 victory (Sportingnews.com). Kurt Warner had an amazing game, also set a Su! the greatest coach in the NFL ever they still had it in them to do it. The San Francisco 49ers took the '95 Super Bowl with ease over the San Diego Charges (Sportingnews.com). Although the 49ers did not have a complete trio they had two of the greatest player with them, Quarter Back Steve Young, and the greatest receiver ever Wide Receiver Jerry Rice (Sportingnews.com). Steve Young threw for a Super Bowl record of 6 touchdowns, and also threw for 325 yards (Sportingnews.com). Corey Dillon set another great record in this decade he broke one of the greatest Running Backs of all times record. This Running Back was Walter Payton who rushed for 275 yards in one game (Showmenews.com). Corey Dillon beat his mark by three yards against the Denver Broncos in a 31-21 victory. Corey Dillon is not a fluke because he also set a rookie record, which he ran for 246 yards (Showmenews.com). John Thorn, Pro Football's Ten Greatest Games (New York: Four Winds Press, 1981) Other great things, which happened in the 90s was a lot of great records being broken. St
