Lucy Simpson

"...it's all of the little things that have made my life memorable and joyful."

Bad things happen to all good people eventually. This is definitely the case with Ms. Lucy Simpson Nieder. What would you do if you lost the thing you love most in the world? Or worse, if you lost the two things you love most in the world? This is what has happened to Lucy Simpson. Although she would just shrug it off and call it "old age", there is more to it than just that.

Soon after their marriage she heard of a job opportunity in California. The year was 1945 and the war was just coming to an end. There was a very urgent need of occupational therapists. Lucy saw this opportunity as a chance to get out into the world for herself. So Lucy signed up and went west of the Mighty Miss for the first time in her life. She trained for six months at the University of Southern California and took classes and lectures in Los Angeles General Hospital. After her training time was over, she was sent to Butler, Pennsylvania. Lucy soon found out that Butler wasn't her calling at all. Lucy loved the food but hated the weather, so after about two weeks she transferred out. This time she was stationed in Petersburg, West Virginia. While working there she made the right fr!
