Taming of the shrew

One of William Shakespeare’s most clever plays is Taming of the Shrew. The play carry’s many themes through it repeatedly from beginning to end. One of the more important themes within the work is “true love prevails” . The theme is present within many characters in the book. Petruchio and Lucentio are easily comparable characters because they both marry one of Baptista’s daughters. The theme of true love prevails is also most clearly displayed by these two characters.

Petruchio is a character who is searching for a bride. His expectations from his future spouse is not love but rather wealth. When he here’s that there is a rich bride whom has man “shrewess” characteristics he sees no reason not to further investigate. After discussion of the possible terms of their marriage he decides he must have her. He believe he knows ho to obtain the affection of the “untamable” Katherine.


a play is presented with an obstacle or challenge. Petruchio’s obstacle in this play was to “ Tame the Shrew” Through the interactions between Petruchio and Katherine we watch the process of Katherine and Petruchio fall in love. At the close of the play a bet is made between Petruchio, Lucentio, Hortensio and Baptista (Katherine’s father) to test the more obedient of the three brides. Baptista and Lucentio Bianca is a shoe in over Katherine.

How Lucentio and Petruchio Fit into the

To the surprise of the characters both Widow and Bianca fail to comply with their husbands requests. Katherina “the shrew” however enters the room at her husbands desire. She then proceeds to further the display by retrieving the other two wives and giving a speech about how wives are supposed to treat there husbands. This is quite possibly the most ironic ending that Shakespeare could have presented. The problem that Petruchio faced is obviously
