To me, the best kind of writing or reading is a story that gives a lesson or provokes thought. Reading a story that has a lesson gives me a sense of purpose for reading it. "The Necklace," by Guy de Maupassant is such a story. Mathilde, the main character, is a materalistic and unappreciative person, but wit a few obstacles she changes her ways and learns a very important lesson.
