Leonardo da Vinci was an extraordinary man. He created famous paintings like the Mona Lisa and the Last Supper. These painting alone would has ensured him a place in history. Most people know him for his painting, yet he didn't only specialize in painting. Leonardo explored a vast variety of subjects like, sculpting, architecture, physical sciences, mathematics, mechanics, and engineering. There are very few people of his kind ever in history.

He developed prototypes for flying machines long before it was perfected. He also drew very detailed draw of human and animal anatomy. These were some of the most important achievements during the Renaissance science. His drawing of the human body were so detailed that he was at leased 300 hundred years before his time.

Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452, the illegitimate son of Peiro da Vinci and a local woman known only as Caterina. He was reared as m member of his father's household. A notarized attestation of his birth by his grandfather signifies his family's recognition of him and of its responsibilities. Still little remains of his childhood.

While staying at the house of Verrocchio, long after his apprenticeship had cone to an end, Leonardo was twice accused of having visited the house of a notorious boy prostitute, whish was to being accused of sodomy, a crime punishable by exile, at worst by being burned at the stake. Some of the greatest artist of the time were at work in Rome for the church. Donato Bramante was building St. Peter's Basilica; Michelangelo was working on the tomb of Pope Julius; and Raphael was painting the rooms of the Pope's apartment. Since Rome didn't have him occupied enough with projects, in 1516 he accepted an incitation from Francis I, king of France, to leave Italy and work for him.
