Times are changing and it's terrifying. This new generation seems to be living fearlessly. These times seem to be exploding with doing what feels good, no matter what the effects are on those in the background. Kids seem to not be afraid of the consequences of their actions. The sound of a lifetime in jail seems to not be as intimidating to our youth culture as it used to be. Why aren't they afraid? Some psychologists say it is from the lack of love in our culture. Psychologists feel there is a missing piece in our society, something has changed, and not for the better. Maybe its because of the lack of time parents have for their kids, possible the fact that more than half of all American families do not eat dinner together.

Does that mean we can use that as an excuse for us being unable to prevent the violence arising today? Violence in school is growing; what are we as individuals and as a society going to do about this insane problem? So far today many ideas have surfaced and of course blame is being given. As educators wrestle with ways to keep classes safe, children joke and tease about past school attacks.

Although, many schools have not yet taken the initiative to buckle down and realize these attacks

The way that the world is today, if something drastic doesn't get done we're going to be in for the ride of our lives. Today the schools are so huge that the teachers don't the luxury of really getting to know their students. That makes it easy for kids to slip through the cracks. It's weird that the kids that have been recently been committing these crimes have been the ones that go unnoticed. Eric Harris and Dylan Kleblod were the kids that got made fun of. They wernt important to the social aspect of the school and when they got fed-up with being teased they took action. We may not think that those around us are capable of doing what was done at Columbine or recently in Southern California, but it is possible. If we don't take severe action this violence is going to literally blow up in our faces.

Still, experts are encouraged by the broad range of strategies schools are taking - a mix of law enforcement, high standards, after-school programs, and family involvement. And, says Bill Modzeleski, "if you cut through all this, what kids want are responsible adults they can talk to, who know their names, who are trusted."
