ben and jerrys

Ben and Jerry's opened their ice cream company in 1978, out of an old retired gas station. The two twenty years, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield combined their names to begin their entrepreneur venture. The company was founded out of Burlington Vermont. The two had some very new ideas that they planned on experimenting with, always remaining optimistic about how they would work out. Some of these new and original ideas are to form an anti-corporate organization and at the same time keeping respectively close relationships with customers, clients, and business partners. Business was conducted by wearing shorts and tie-dyed T-shirts to meetings and often opened with a song. Also chunky ingredients were to be used instead of the traditional light ingredients and a larger focus on the actual ice cream, as current ice cream makers were doing. The high fat content is also a major component in Ben and Jerry's ice cream. Among the most important of all is Ben and Jerry's extrav!

name for the job he or she occupied. This added a little fun to the traditional idea that work had to be hard and uncomfortable. This also helped establish Ben and Jerry' significant anti-corporate theme.

One of the biggest issues that can be argued against Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream is their lack of vision for the future and expansion. Cohen was opposed to growth for growth's sake, he believed expansion was more trouble then it was worth. This tends to be the way an organizations thinks when they are going out of business. While you have the chance to grow, you should grow.

Upon entering the market Ben and Jerry's soon found it hard to seize shelf space in supermarkets due to its competitor Haagen-Dazs. Ben and Jerry's charged the company who had been in the market since 1961, a 17 year old advantage, with putting unfair pressure on distributors not to make room for Ben and Jerry's ice cream on their shelves. Greenfield drove down to the Haagen-Dazs headquarters to picket the company. This move gained Ben and Jerry's national publicity and a good chance at becoming a number one leader in the industry. Ben and Jerry's know it is a liberal organization that looks out for the well being of others and especially for its employees. So it was no surprise when Ben and Jerry's announced that it would introduce a policy that the highest paid employees would not receive more then seven times more then the lowest paid employee. "Job title" is another example of how Ben and Jerry's have loosed the anti-corporate tie. Each employee was able to create a!
