Underage Drinking at College
“What is college about?” is a question that many people ask when the time comes toconsider what one wants to do with the next four years of their life. One popular answer might be, “One giant party!!”. This notion is notable almost instantaneously once someone has entered the college atmosphere. One could also note how easy it is to obtain the most popular party favor, alcohol. And one could also point out where most of the alcohol is coming from, fraternities. Fraternities are notorious for their drinking and partying and it’s no surprise that many of the people partying with them are minors who are illegally drinking at almost all of the functions. This is a incredibly severe problem that needs fixing. Entering freshman who need to focus on schoolwork are being constantly pressured to drink at parties where alcohol is readily available. “College students who reported D and F [GPA’s] averaged 9 drinks per week...”(www.madd.org). The availability of alcohol to minors needs to be reduced dramatically in order to help prevent many alcohol related accidents, allow new students to focus on their schoolwork, and to stay in accordance with the law.
