Computer Viruses
Many people theses days own a computer, but the problem is that the owner doesn't know the dangers of having a computer. One of the worse things that can happen to a computer is it can be infected by a virus. A virus may simply cause a harmless joke to appear each time the computer is turned on; A more damaging virus can cause major problems within a few minutes. These major problems can cause a computer to crash, which will destroy valuable data. Some of the things that people need to learn are how to protect their computer from viruses, and how to become more informed on the kinds of viruses, and how they can learn what viruses do to a computer. The first thing people should learn is what a virus really is, and how it effects the computer. A virus is a set of instructions that attaches to computer programs, and becomes apart of them. A virus has the ability to clone itself, so that it can multiply to attach itself to other programs. After a virus has effected a computer it can cause many things to happen. Some of those things are: loss of user confidence in the system, loss of productivity, lost data, corrupted files, loss of access to data, or even causing a system to crash. In the employee development group few users can afford to have their software developed by their own employees. Also, good programmers are expensive or don't want long-term employment offers. The next group is independent programmers. They play a big part in the range of individual solutions, and can be found in almost any city. Most of the time these are one-man operations that offer programming for a price. The fourth group is software houses, and due to the high priced programmers software houses are the most cost-effective custom software source. The final stage is the Off-the-shelf software, which seems to be the most cost-effective. The Computer owners, if really wanting to find a lot out should examine the different levels of security. According to the computer security standards developed by the U.S. Department of Defense, several levels of security are used to protect everything on the computer from "hackers"
