Each person has his or her own ideas for who is a hero or a villain, some persons evil, sinister, madmen, may be some other persons hero or role model. In any case there are similarities shared with them both. The following examples of writing show how the author can portray a hero or a villain. Using techniques in writing like irony, setting, and plot an author can make a character, or a real life person, seem like Superman or Dr. Evil. Mark Singer uses irony in portraying Errol Morris. This is a good technique especially for writing about Morris who is so ironic. It adds humor and is easier to read, it is also easier to like the subject. Some authors will be bias and show the reader a one sided story, others will use panegyric techniques. Heros and villains have similarities and differences according to how the author has chosen to write about them, that will determine how they are viewed.

Mark Singer displays Errol Morris as a very smart and unusual character in this biography. He writes about humorous events that have taken place in Morris' life. How we view heros and villains depends on how the author chooses to portray them they both are similar and different at the same time. Errol Morris and James Valez are both heros who bring that statement some truth. They are the same in that they are heros but different in that they did completely different things. They both had goals and dreams, James Valez reached his but soon after died, Errol Morris is still making ironic films but they are beginning to get some more respect and are reaching new heights in popularity, like The Thin Blue Line. Completely opposite things but doing it because its what makes them happy.
