A suitor is a man who is courting a woman. Once you figure that important part out this unstructured poem unravels itself line by line. The speaker in this poem is a women who is being set up for marriage with a man she has never met or seen in her life. As the poem goes on you can see how her feelings develop for this man.

She now understands that he is a shy and possibly lacking self-confidence like everyone in that situation would be. All that is going to happen now is she will ease into the relationship and see how it goes in the long run. It is ironic though that this gentleman is timid because he did choose this woman to marry.
