A suitor is a man who is courting a woman. Once you figure that important part out this unstructured poem unravels itself line by line. The speaker in this poem is a women who is being set up for marriage with a man she has never met or seen in her life. As the poem goes on you can see how her feelings develop for this man.
The first line of the poem is an interesting way to catch the reader. Without reading on you will think that these two people know each other because they lie back to back. In essence this means at first they have do not know each other at all. As they lie back-to-back it could be miles and miles away and still have the same meaning. Kenyon had a great pick of word choice for this first line. As the next line is read curtains lift and fall, as do relationships. This is a great metaphor for this poem. Relationships definitely have their ups and downs and this is shown in great detail here in this line. Now in the next line i

Now moving along to the next line the wind blowing through the leaves on the tree can mean many things. I compared the leaves moving to how "they move each other" and the best meaning for this is they are finally finding out and realizing what each other are really like. So they do actually show their "light" undersides just like the leaves on the trees do. I know you have heard the old saying there really is a light at the end of the tunnel and in this case for a relationship it is very true. Without totally opening up to each other the relationship would never work out. So in essence they really have to show there "light undersides."
magine a person's chest rise and fall as they are sleeping with every breath taking as chunk of oxygen out of the air. This line involves imagery as well as a great simile to the curtains.
