Pyramids are located in many different places including Egypt, Sudan, Mexico, and also Central America (Berman & Sanchez 557). Archaeologists travel all over the world in search for pyramids. The majority of pyramids are located in Egypt. The pyramids located in Egypt "are the oldest and only surviving member of the ancient wonders" (CNN 1).

Scientists and archaeologists explore pyramids for many reasons. Some explore pyramids for the fun and adventure, and others explore pyramids to become rich and famous. Most scientists and archaeologists were very unsure of what they would find. Most of the time they did not know what to expect. This could either be very dangerous, or very rewarding. It could even be both.

Almost anyone could be mummified, but not many people were because the mummification process was a very expensive process. The people who were mostly mummified were pharaohs and nobility. Common people were sometimes mummified also, but only if they had the money. "For religious reasons, some animals were also mummified" (Smithsonian 2).

Archaeologists had to begin their explorations very carefully. They had to dig and excavate very carefully as though not to disturb any of the soil. If they made one wrong move, they could ruin a piece of art, or any other part of the mummified pharaoh. If they are not careful with the mummy, then they could break of a piece of the mummy, as it is very fragile. Most archaeologists get up at dawn to begin their excavations.

Ever since archaeologists and scientists have started exploring pyramids, they have found many great pieces of artwork. Explorers found that ancient Egyptians wrote the plans for the shrines on pieces of rock. These rocks were preserved intact. The soil and mud helped to preserve these rocks very well. Artists often etched the tale of the King's life on the walls of the pyramids (James 96). Archaeologists often discovered many decorative drawings on the walls of pyramids (Payne 92). Most statues that were guarding the pharaoh were made out of limestone (James94, 110). The Grand Gallery held many of the late pharaoh's treasures.

There has been a question as to who built the pyramids. Some people believe that aliens actually built pyramids. Other scientists believe that the ancient Egyptians built them by hand (Built 1). There are, of course, many theories as to how pyramids were built. One way scientists believe Egyptians built pyramids is by moving blocks up a long ramp. Some people believe that the building of pyramids was an accident made by the Egyptians (Methods 1).
