In today's society students are continually bombarded with rules and regulations that they must abide. Another issue to focus on is dress codes and school uniforms. Dress codes are simple guidelines that provide structure, but leeway for students as well. An example of a dress code guideline is clothing apparel, which does not advertise contra band or alcohol. Whereas school uniforms are more stringent and include dress wear such as ties, knee high skirts and blazers. Some people would argue that dress codes improve learning on school campuses. However, dress codes and school uniforms do not promote a better learning environment because it hinders creative thought, masks the problems of the school system, and demonstrates mistrust against students.

tablished to teach students to apply themselves to their work and build individuality. However, guidelines lead to conformity, which stifles the student body, proving to be counterproductive. Students have rights to express their creative thoughts, which is most likely to be swayed by having dress codes and school uniforms mandatory in school. Therefore, the one's against the policy of dress code and school uniforms should take actions. According to Tina Moore, "Many parents and students held up signs that read, 'School uniforms kill creativity' in a recent school board meeting"(1). Dr. Hilfer Sensor, a Psychologist, comments, "schools are taking away kid's individuality--schools need to decide if the sacrifice is worth making"(qtd in Svenson 2).
