As he lay there on his death bed, he muttered his last words, "Will no ruler take me as his master?" He then died, believing that he had no influence on China. In years to come, his teachings brought prosperity to millions and his emphasis on hard work and education truly showed that he knew that every human had the capacity to be successful. He once said, "Another can judge a criminal case as well as I, what I would like to do is to correct the conditions that bring these cases about." One of his main goals was to create this superior man, he wanted people to be judged on a aristocracy of noble character not noble birth. "The superior man demands much of himself where as the small man demands much of others," is a direct quote taken from the Analects. The man I speak of is Kong Fu Zi, better known as Confucius. Confucius's first job was when he was 19, overseeing grain. Back in 525b.c, grain was a form of money, so being put in charge of the grain was not a bad first job. Even at a young age he was driven to improve character and he felt that there was no time to stop learning except on his death bed. After his mother died, he was not only rejected by society but he lived a poverty stricken life. Confucius felt that family love was greater than any gold and he believed that you could transfer assault into wisdom. He was also a man of deep sympathy with the poor and the distressed, someone of keen sensibility and strong emotions who felt deeply the loss by death of disciples and friends. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I interviewed Professor Mellert, who teaches here at Brookdale, and I asked him a few questions about Confucius. to do was to restore peace in China and to end war. He quit his job, and went to the libraries in search of the key to China's
