1. I would have to say that I liked the play "Trifles" better than "And the Soul Shall Dance" for numerous reasons. One being that I like the mystery involved in "Trifles", rather than the drama, which takes place in "And the Soul Shall Dance". Another reason for my opinion is that I felt culturally misplaced while reading "And the Soul Shall Dance". What I mean is that "And the Soul Shall Dance" displayed some cultural aspects throughout the play, which I could not relate to.

A. This is the complication or the rising action of the piece of work.

2. Middle - causes and effects stressed

B. This is the climax, crisis, or reversal in the piece of work.

C. This is the falling action or unraveling of the piece of work.

Freytag's Pyramid shows the beginning of a work and the gradual increase of complication within. Next it shows the climax or crisis of the work or the turning point of the work. Last is the end or resolution, where the work begins to unravel.

5. I chose "A Man Who Was Almost A Man" to apply Freytag's Pyramid to. The beginning is pretty much self-explanatory. The complication and rising action of this story is when Dave is trying to get the gun

8. Johnson, James, and Linda Nonesuch. Modern Romanticism. Boston, Mass. : Lippincott, 1999

23. The story "The Jilting of Granny Weatherall" is narrated in order to reminisce in the life of Granny Weatherall. The story shows an older, upbeat, women who is going through a slow death and how her family and her deal with it. While in the mist of her dying and death, her family and friends come to find that there were many facts of Weatherall that were previously unknown. These revelations became very shocking to the whole family.

14. The poems at the end of the play are relevant to Emiko's loss of mind. The first poem is implying that the alcohol made Emiko lonely and causes her and Oka to separate. It also gives reason to believe that the alcohol had some effect on Emiko's mind. The second poem is about the release of a caged bird. In other words, it is Emiko's freedom from everything. Freedom from her abusive husband and freedom from any mind boggling thoughts. They both represent the loss of Emiko's mind.

15. I see Hana as the protagonist throughout this play. One reason being that Hana helps Kiyoko through the hard times of her family's alcoholism and abuse. When they would fight, Kiyoko would go to Hana's and be comforted. Hana also comforted Emiko through the rough times of her marriage to Oka and the loss of her mind.

24. The title "The Jilting of Granny Weatherall", would be better understood if it were called "The Abandonment of Granny Weatherall". Basically the title means that Granny is abandoning her family to die. It doesn't mean that her family abandons her so she can die in the middle of nowhere. It just means that she is leaving every thing here
